Tech-facilitated gender-based violence through AI during elections | Elections and Technology Reader Issue No. 09
The recent elections in Bangladesh, Nepal and South Korea showed the online mis- and disinformation as persistent fixtures in the electoral environment. Monitoring efforts also showed that gender-based attacks and violence online continued to affect women’s participation and engagement in elections.
As prevalent as they are, however, the policies to address the proliferation of online mis- and disinformation during elections and mitigate their impact on electoral integrity are under strain. With the increase in utilization of artificial intelligence (AI) in generating and spreading mis- and disinformation content, such policies have not caught up.

The “Elections and Technology Reader” looks into emerging trends related to generative AI and other emerging technologies and their use and impact to elections and democracy.
