PAFFREL, CMEV put up complaints units for local gov’t polls

ANFREL members People's Action for Free and Fair Elections (PAFFREL) and Centre for Monitoring Election Violence (CMEV) have put up special units where electoral stakeholders can report election-related violence and violations in Sri Lanka.

PAFFREL set up a Special Election Complaints Unit where voters can submit complaints about violation of election laws including "misappropriation of state property and power, bribing voters, distribution of goods, especially, the use of resources belonging to local government bodies for election campaign and promotion of candidates, making new appointments, and transferring or promoting staff during the election time."

CMEV, meanwhile, also asked candidates and voters to report violence, threats or social media harassment during the campaign season as well as illegal campaigning or misuse of public property for election campaigning.
