NAMFREL says Maguindanao plebiscite peaceful, transparent

The National Citizens' Movement for Free Elections (NAMFREL) observed the conduct of the 17 September 2022 Maguindanao Plebiscite to divide the province into Maguindano del Norte and Maguindano del Sur.

NAMFREL volunteers reported that the procedure was smooth and peaceful, in general. Security remained an issue in many parts of Maguindanao, however.

NAMFREL volunteers also described the conduct of the closing, counting, and canvassing processes as very smooth, peaceful, and transparent.

On the afternoon of Sunday, 18 September 2022, Commission on Elections (Comelec) spokesman Rex Laudiangco said that 706,558 voters of 99.27% voted "yes" to the question, "Do you agree to divide the province of Maguindanao into two separate provinces … in accordance with Republic Act. No. 11550?" A total of 5,209 voters of 0.73% said "no".

The voter turnout for the plebiscite was 86.93%.
