2010 Mission Report: Philippines – Automated National & Local Elections

View Full Report (PDF)

The first automated elections in The Philippines will go down in the history of electoral politics as one of the most important phases in recent times. The elections were held after over a decade of experimentation and planning. Though there has been loads of skepticism about the use of technology in the electoral process from various sections of society, the fact that the process provided results, which were largely acceptable perhaps supports the fact that the system must be tried in the future elections. The outcome of the elections in The Philippines provides a good reason to believe that the automated system may be acceptable but the technical aspects of the process must be understandable to the masses and information accessible to all.
