LTOs gather in Colombo for pre-deployment briefing

The long term observers (LTOs) of ANFREL's International Election Observation Mission (IEOM) for the 2019 Sri Lanka Presidential Election participated in a one-day pre-deployment briefing on 31 October 2019 in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

The LTOs were given an overview of the state of political affairs, electoral system, and the media and civil society organizations in Sri Lanka. They were also briefed on the election observation guidelines.

The observation mission will be guided by ANFREL’s methodology, tailor-fitted to comply with the Declaration of Principles and Code of Conduct for International Election Observation.

ANFREL's IEOM team for the 2019 Sri Lankan poll is composed of a mission head, a mission coordinator, two electoral analysts, nine LTOs, and 32 short-term observers who will be covering all electoral districts.

ANFREL is the only Asian international non-governmental organization accredited by the Election Commission of Sri Lanka for the 2019 Presidential Election. ANFREL aims to promote democratic norms and good electoral practices through this election observation mission.
