Call for Applications: Executive Director

The Asian Network for Free Elections (ANFREL) is looking for a dynamic leader to fill the position of Executive Director for a minimum of 3 years. The Executive Director provides strategic leadership and effective management to ANFREL’s Secretariat and strategic direction to the implementation of the organization’s programs as determined by the Executive Council Members (EC).

He/she is responsible for ensuring availability of resources to run the programs and is required to prepare periodic reports of the progress and developments of the organization. The Executive Director reports to the Executive Council Members. He/she will be working in a multi-cultural environment. The Executive Director will be based in ANFREL’s Secretariat in Bangkok, Thailand, but will be regularly coordinating and working with network organizations across the Asian region.

Required Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:

• A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in the areas of elections, democracy in Asia, of which a minimum of 5 years has been as lead at the level of senior management or as a Director/Senior Management of, preferably, an international/regional non-governmental organization;
• Strong experience and expertise in organizational and human resource management, resource mobilization and overall quality assurance of funding proposals and donor reports;
• Proven advocacy and leadership skills in civil society mobilization in Asia;
• Knowledge of fundraising strategies and donor relations unique to the non-government organizations;
• Excellent communication skills in English and preferably at least one Asian language;
• Committed to the core values of democracy, non-political, non-partisan;
• Proven ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships in a multicultural, multi-ethnic Asian environment with sensitivity and respecting the diverse voices of Asian people and others.

Desired Additional Skills

• Sound academic qualification, preferably a Master’s Degree in relevant fields such as political science, human rights, laws, social sciences, and relevant leadership certifications;
• Relevant managerial qualifications;
• Interpersonal skills;
• Ability to deliver in a high-pressure environment; and
• Ability to handle complex situations and multiple responsibilities simultaneously.
