Bersih releases ‘Mapping Unequal Votes’ report
The Coalition for Clean and Fair Elections (Bersih) released the second part of a series of reports on malapportionment and gerrymandering issues in Malaysia.
“Mapping Unequal Votes” by Danesh Prakash Chacko explores solutions for the government, the Election Commission, and other stakeholders to implement a fair redelineation exercise.
The report said the last redelineation, a process of drawing electoral boundaries, exercise in Malaysia was riddled with explicit gerrymandering and malapportionment. The report noted that the next redelineation exercise presents an opportune time for Malaysia to reset its negative electoral boundary past and forge fair electoral boundaries for the future.
