ANFREL to host discussions on democratic backsliding in Hong Kong, Myanmar

The Asian Network for Free Elections (ANFREL) is hosting two side events to the Asian Electoral Stakeholder Forum 5 on 21 October 2021 at 3-4 p.m. (Bangkok time).

The two parallel side events will discuss the democratic backsliding in Hong Kong and what the international community could do nine months since the coup in Myanmar.

For the Hong Kong discussion, ANFREL invited Hong Kong Watch policy advisor Ms. Joey Siu and Hong Kong-based political scientist and former LegCo member Dr. Kenneth Ka-loc Chan as speakers. ANFREL senior program officer Amael Vier will moderate the discussion.

For the Myanmar discussion, meanwhile, ANFREL invited Progressive Voice founder and chairperson Khin Ohmar and former Foreign Minister of Thailand Kasit Piromya as speakers. ANFREL program officer Tharindu Abeyrathna will moderate the discussion.
