ANFREL releases revised Myanmar election monitoring handbook
The Asian Network for Free Elections (ANFREL) presented its revised "Election Monitoring Handbook" to the ANFREL member organizations, Union Election Commission (UEC) of Myanmar, and the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Yangon in Myanmar last week of August.
ANFREL’s “Election Monitoring Handbook for National Election Monitoring Groups in Myanmar” was first introduced in 2014 as a primary tool to guide national election monitoring groups ahead of Myanmar’s first democratic elections in two decades.
As Myanmar is set to hold its national elections in 2020, ANFREL conducted several consultation meetings with various national election monitoring groups across Myanmar to update the handbook.
Among the recommendations from the consultation meetings was the need for further guidance on reporting and processing data gathered in the field during election monitoring. Other recommendations include were updating of election monitoring methods and focusing on campaign finance and out-of-constituency voting.
The inputs were incorporated in the revised version of the handbook.
Present during the launch of the revised election monitoring handbook were ANFREL members People's Alliance for Credible Elections (PACE) and New Myanmar Foundation (NMF), the Union Election Commission of Myanmar, and the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Yangon.
