ANFREL, NMF Host an Online Election Monitoring Training

The ANFREL program in Myanmar together with the New Myanmar Foundation (NMF) conducted a four-day online training on election monitoring from 9 to 12 June 2020.

This was part of ANFREL's capacity building program for National Election Monitoring Organizations (NEMG) which promote citizen election observation in Myanmar.

Twenty participants were selected for the first batch of the training while the second batch will undergo the training next week.

Four sessions were held during the four-day training which covered areas such as election monitoring principles, election law in Myanmar, election cycle, and methodologies and techniques in election monitoring and also paid attention on challenges conducting the election in current COVID-19 circumstances.

ANFREL and NMF conducted the training online to adapt to the current restrictions under the COVID-19 pandemic.

Election monitoring is an essential component to ensure transparency and uphold and protect free and fair elections. ANFREL has revised its election monitoring handbook for Myanmar as a guide for election monitors and organizations planning to embark on national and local election observation efforts.

This program would not have been possible without the generous support from the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Yangon.

Twenty participants were selected for the four-day pilot online training on election monitoring.
