The Asian Network for Free Elections (ANFREL) launched on 13 May 2026 the final report on its observation of the 2026 House of Representatives Elections in Nepal.

ANFREL hosted a post-election discussion with various electoral stakeholders in the country to present the key findings of the international election observation mission in Nepal as well as the recommendations that electoral stakeholders could consider in pursuing electoral reforms towards strengthening electoral integrity in the country.

The participants reflected on ANFREL’s findings and recommendations and shared insights about the lessons the electoral exercise offered. The post-election discussion is part of ANFREL’s efforts to identify electoral reform pathways.

ANFREL also presented the findings and recommendations to the Election Commission of Nepal, development partners and policymakers in the country.

The House of Representatives elections in Nepal, conducted on 5 March 2026, took place amid a politically transitional and polarized environment following the upheaval of September 2025.

ANFREL observed that the election day was peaceful and orderly and reflected continued public engagement with democratic processes despite recent political instability.

However, the electoral process also revealed persistent weaknesses in electoral accountability, uneven enforcement of campaign regulations, inconsistent observer access, and structural barriers to inclusive political participation.

ANFREL deployed a pre-election assessment and IEOM for the elections in Nepal. Deployed in all seven provinces, 20 ANFREL international election observers covered 35 districts.
