The Asian Network for Free Elections is hosting a two-part webinar on political rights and movements in Southeast Asia. The first and second parts of the webinar will be on 17 and 24 October 2025, respectively.

For the first part, ANFREL executive council member Asiath Rilweena and Professor Duncan McCargo will discuss developments in the Philippines, particularly on the postponed Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) parliamentary elections, and the upcoming elections in Thailand.

The sessions will examine the evolving democratic and electoral landscape across Southeast Asia, focusing on the region’s key elections, political transitions, and reform trajectories over the 2025–2026 period. It will highlight both progress and persisting challenges in advancing participatory governance, protecting political rights, and ensuring electoral integrity.

The discussion will feature updates and analyses from several ASEAN member states, showcasing national experiences and the role of civil society in promoting credible and inclusive elections.
