The Asian Network for Free Elections (ANFREL) convened the general assembly on 6 June 2026 and elected a new set of Executive Council members and officers.

ANFREL members convened in Bangkok, Thailand where the ANFREL Executive Council shared their accomplishments during their three-year term. The ANFREL Secretariat also shared ANFREL’s programs and activities setting the discussion for the organization’s strategy moving forward.

A new set of Executive Council members were elected with seats allocated for members of the South, Southeast and East Asia sub-regions. The general assembly elected the chairperson, vice chairperson and secretary general from the elected members of the Executive Council. Thailand member P-NET is appointed as the organization’s treasurer.

The following are the new members and officers of ANFREL’s Executive Council who will serve a term of three years:

• Gopal Krishna Siwakoti, PhD (National Election Observation Committee, Nepal) – Chairperson
• Elberel Davaa (Women for Social Progress, Mongolia) – Vice Chairperson
• Atty. Rona Ann V. Caritos (Legal Network for Truthful Elections, Philippines) – Secretary General
• Laddawan Tantivitayapitak (Open Forum for Democracy Foundation [PollWatch/P-NET], Thailand) – Treasurer
• Khoirunnisa Nur Agustyati (Association for Election and Democracy, Indonesia) – Member
• Muhammad Faisal bin Abdul Aziz (Coalition for Clean and Fair Elections, Malaysia) – Member
• Prof. Sanjay Kumar (Lokniti-CSDS, India) – Member
• Aishath Rizna (Transparency Maldives, Maldives) – Member

Outgoing ANFREL chairperson Rohana Hettiarachchi thanked the members of the outgoing Executive Council, the secretariat and the ANFREL members for their support. He congratulated the newly elected ANFREL Executive Council officers and members and wished them all the best.
